About the Author

Oliver Christen grew up in a small Swiss town. After graduating from business school and completing his service as an officer, he left Switzerland to expand his horizons and see the world. Over the next two decades, Oliver travelled extensively, experienced different cultures, built businesses across four continents, and immersed himself in meditative practice. For several years, he performed with a spiritual theatre company at renowned festivals across Asia and Europe.

Eventually, he returned to Switzerland as a dual Swiss/Australian citizen to be closer to his parents, bringing with him his international family. Along the way, he learned to have faith amid uncertainty, to stay composed when outcomes were beyond his control, and feel at home in silence and ambiguity. His early meditation training in Japan profoundly shaped his sense of who we truly are and what may lie beyond death. With no prior experience in assisted dying, he relied on intuition, presence and a handful of careful conversations and research to support and witness his mother’s intentional end of life.

Friends deeply moved by his mother’s final journey encouraged Oliver to write As She Chose, believing more people should know that it is possible to die at home with dignity, agency and presence. In a time when death is often medicalised, hidden from view and stripped of personal choice, he offers this story in the spirit in which it was lived: as a testament to courage, clarity and love at the end of life. It is an invitation to restore death to the realm of relationships, meaning and communal grace — to remember that life’s final chapter is not just clinical, but deeply human and spiritual. If it helps even one person to find the courage to choose their ending with clarity and peace, it will have been worth telling.

Today, Oliver Christen lives near Zürich, where he explores opportunities to co‑create a more sustainable and conscious world. When he is not writing or working on new projects, he feels most alive in nature — walking in the forests, hiking in the mountains, or being close to the ocean. As She Chose is his first book.
